Officers from the Smiths wood neighbourhood team are continuing to conduct proactive patrols and take preventative measures to tackle vehicle crime, across all Smiths wood, Kingshurst and Castle Bromwich.
Simple Steps to Keep Your Vehicle Safe –
Keyless ignition owners should use a Faraday pouch for their fob. All drivers should consider a steering lock, park in well – lit visible areas, lock their vehicle, remove valuables and ensure windows, sunroof, and wing mirrors are closed/ folded. Unfolded mirrors may signal an unlocked car to thieves.
What has been happening? Good news –
Our Castle Bromwich Street watch team have been out twice this week patrolling the area. Street Watch is a community-led project. It’s made up of groups of volunteers who are at least 18 years old. The groups go out and patrol their area for at least two hours every month. The patrols help to stop crime and anti-social behaviour. They also help people in the area get to know each other and encourage others to take an active interest in keeping their area safe. Across the force we have 848 members making up 128 groups – who all kindly agree to take part in a minimum of two hours of activity a month. If you would like to join this amazing Team of volunteers and make a difference in your area, please contact streetwatch@westmidlands.police.uk
On 15th October a crime prevention brainstorming meeting was held with representatives from the Travel lodge and The Toby Carvery to discuss ways to improve safety and reduce opportunities for crime within the car park. The meeting provided an opportunity to share concerns, identify potential vulnerabilities and explore practical solutions. Things discussed were improved lighting, CCTV, security measures and increased awareness of any suspicious activity. This was a very productive meeting and going forward hopefully we will see a reduction of criminal activity because of any positive changes made. PCSOs have also seized a vehicle for no tax and no insurance in Smithswood. Smithswood NHT has also dropped some ‘No Trick or Treats’ cards at Elmwood Family Hub and Auckland Hall for members of the public to collect and display them on their doors if they don’t want their door to be knocked around Halloween.
